Along with the more and more precise development of CNC machine as well as more and more application of compound material, cutting tools play a more important role for machining. Traditional solid tool such as solid high-speed steel and solid carbide tool are replaced by indexable cutting tools for many items due to poor tool life or too expensive tool cost.
Several advantages of indexable cutting tool can effectively raise machining efficiency and lower cost:
1. Application of carbide insert. As teeth are worn out, it only needs to replace insert without abandoning the cutter body or regrinding it. It reduces problems of the instable life issue by regrinding. Meanwhile since carbide insert has always multiple edges available, the general cost among with the performance is lower than solid tools.
2. Indexable cutting tool has better shareability. The same carbide insert can be used on holder with different length or outer diameter. For example, the same insert mounted on dovetail cutter of 50 degrees can also be mounted on dovetail cutter of 55 degrees and thus saves the expense for tool cost.
