【UFO MILL】Better Rough Reaming Creates a Better Foundation for Finish Reaming
In hole machining, rough reaming creates a stable foundation for the subsequent finish reaming process.
For this automotive Steel Carrier application, the customer originally used a solid carbide end mill. High tooling costs, combined with a machining depth of approximately 75 mm, made cutting stability and chip evacuation key challenges.
Y.T. developed a customized UFO MILL solution:
✅ Holder: BB3-1414-110
✅ Insert: 3B14.7505R5-S10-ME.B100
The indexable design reduces tooling costs, while the high-rigidity structure maintains stable cutting and smooth chip evacuation during long-overhang machining. The pre-machined bore was consistently controlled at Ø14.810 mm, providing a reliable foundation for finish reaming.
The customer achieved:
• Lower tooling costs and replacement time
• Improved rough reaming stability and chip evacuation
• Greater consistency for finish reaming
Following the successful test, the customer proceeded with additional trials of YIH TROUN’s 3BC and 3BH series.
A better process makes the next process better, too.
