In the automatic lathe industry, Table Slide components are critical precision parts that directly affect machine positioning accuracy, machining quality, and long-term operational stability.

Our customer was machining a Table Slide made from FC300 gray cast iron, a material widely used in machine structures because of its excellent rigidity, wear resistance, and vibration damping capability.

 

The Machining Challenge

Although FC300 provides excellent structural properties, its graphite composition creates severe abrasive wear during machining.

The application required:

• 200mm continuous machining length

• 60° dovetail slot profile

• Continuous heavy side cutting operation

This type of machining places significant demands on tool rigidity, wear resistance, and process stability.

The customer previously used a conventional HSS dovetail cutter with the following cutting conditions:

VC 9 m/min, 50 RPM, Only 10 workpieces per cutting edge

As a result, production faced several limitations:

❌ Low cutting speed

 Limited machining efficiency

 Frequent tool replacement

 Increased machine downtime

 Difficulty reducing production cost

To optimize machining performance, YIH TROUN implemented:

✅ XDGT190408R-ME F30 Insert

Despite using only a 3-edge configuration,

the tool maintained highly stable cutting performance at:

VC130 m/min, RPM 690, Feed 150

while consistently maintaining excellent slot accuracy and machining quality.

Performance Results

• Tool life improved from 10 workpieces to over 60 workpieces per edge

• Overall tool life increased by more than 12X

• Significant reduction in tool replacement frequency

• Improved production stability and overall productivity
